last night i watched a show that, i thought, really shows the attitude of jws towards the rest of the world.

it was extremely enlightening and i hope it opened alot of peoples eyes that think jws are just nice christian people, but are not a cult.

it was a show on "e" that is called "opening act".

i haven't seen the episode, but from the way the commentators were talking in the second video, i thought it showed just how crazy this stuff can be. it's a life changing moment for the positive and he can barely make that step? even they could see the effects of the cult's influences years after he left.

he might not be the "worst case scenario" but does he have to be to get the point across?

i think most viewers are going to see is someone getting the opportunity of a lifetime and the person receiving it struggles at first for no other reason than the internal conflict within him because of the brainwashing on him. and they'll see a mother who gave up a free ticket around the world to see her son potentially launch himself into stardom all because of the very same brainwashing from the cult she raised her son in.

it's too bad other people don't seem to understand that. my relationship with my nonwitness family is kinda strained in part bc they don't see all the damage that was done, the things we ALL missed out on as a family. that conflict von smith had is everything i felt, but couldn't put into words, in regards to school. what other people also don't realize is that even though we made the conscientious decision to leave, that doesn't mean those conflicts won't still be around years after the fact

looks like there's some old books in there, love the ritual, hate the thought that some of the stuff in there might be lost without being preserved so that the jws can be exposed for the nutty bullshit they teach

understandable. i went through something similar with my mom, though my reasons weren't as pure. i didn't want to destroy her faith, but there was a lot of bad air that needed to be cleaned if we were going to have an actual relationship which we've never had. it's sad when a kid goes to one of the elders and confesses that he doesn't love his own mother.

this is coming from my colored perspective, but i think you did the right thing. sometimes you're backed in a corner. if your mom is down in the dumps, really struggling and it's bc of the cult, why not take the shot to see if you can help her?

i have questions about the scriptures and rebuttals, but that's gonna take some thinking lol.

i think there's a line that we shouldn't cross. cursing and being disrespectful when actually communicating with an elected official is over that line imo.

well.....i am now officially on the precipice of divorce.

it started last tuesday night.

I can't say for certain how much help this will be, but it looks like there might be information to help you. i don't have that much time, but i did google some of the names on the advisory board and they at least SEEM very legitimate. there's a few lawyers on the advisory board as well.

don't take this as an endorsement of that institute. i haven't done much research on it myself, but i definitely encourage you to. like i said, it seems very legitimate and apparently rick ross has spoken at upenn, uchicago and some other prestigious places.

one of the advisory board members is ford greene who is a lawyer from california who specializes in cult related litigation. maybe he can at least point you in the right direction as far as lawyers to go with in your state?
